Sveti Vlas, sometimes referred to as "St Vlas", is a coastal resort town on the Black Sea Coast. It is fairly small with a population of around 4,000, and is situated close to the bigger resorts of Nessebar and Sunny Beach. It is much quieter than either of these two and so would be ideal from those wishing to avoid noise and bustle. Travelling between St Vlas and these two resorts is easy. Because St Vlas is gradually expanding, the gaps between grow steadily narrower. Indeed Sunny Beach could even be considered within walking distance. The nearest airport is Bourgas at just 25 minutes drive away.
The town has a long history of Greek settlement with Greeks making up a significant proportion of the population. Tourists are regularly attracted from all over Europe with Russians, Poles and British being the most prominent. It is also very popular with tourists from inland Bulgaria.
The main attraction would be the south-facing beach with its clean sand and water and abundance of activities such as jetskiing. In 2007 the beach was extended by excavation to allow for the continuing expansion of tourism-related buildings, yet even today St Vlas still upholds its reputation for peace and tranquility. There are also gently undulating hills further inland which provide a pleasant setting for strolling, picnicking and barbecues. The fact that the resort is relatively unknown means that prices in restaurants and bars are very competitive.
