Did you know this ‘party capital’ was originally a densely wooded area? In fact, the direct translation means holy wooded area. There are a host of things here to keep the tourist occupied.
You can start with a trip to the Water Park for some rides, slides, fun and adventure. There is an activity pool, spray columns, geysers and much more. From here, head for one of the Cruise and Boat trips which are guaranteed to give the kids a great time. There is a pirate show with sound effects, along with a treasure hunt and cannon show. There are other boat trips that include snorkelling and cliff jumping. Very often dolphins accompany the rides.
From here, head to the Nissi beach to enjoy the fine white and sandy beach leading to the turquoise waters. The water is shallow, lovely and warm. The Lanta beach is also equally good. Besides these, there is the Makronisos beach and the Grecian Bay that have beautiful stretches along the breathtakingly picture-postcard waters. From the beach, head straight up at 4G to enjoy a bungee jump that is out of this world. You can also buy a video, which captures those thrilling moments just before your hands splash the water!
A visit to the monastery of Aiya Napa is a must. It was built in 1,500 AD and is laid in a beautiful garden. There are many legends and stories revolving around the monastery. The Church of Aiya Napa is a short distance from the monastery. From here, you can move on to take in the Sea Caves of Aiya Napa. These are just a couple of kilometres from the city centre. Make sure you are wearing something with a thick sole, as the rocks are quite sharp.
There are quite a few Churches here. The Church of Profitas Elias is dedicated to the prophet Elias. AgiaThekla has great interiors and is worth a visit. From April to October there are dances, singing and band music in the square next to the monastery.
While here, you must try the local cuisine that is something quite special. The food is cooked with herbs and spices and grilled in a wood fired oven. The Cyprus Tourism Organisation offers guided tours throughout the year and are quite handy in getting to know the place.
The airport about 45 minutes away by taxi. While at Aiya Napa, you can move around on foot or hire bicycles, mopeds, car or taxi. The trip is sure to make you want to come again
