The small seaside resort of Chloraka, sometimes also spelled as Chlorakas, is situated on the famous Tomb of the Kings Road that runs along the Cypriot coastline from Cape Drepano in the north to the larger town of Paphos, just a few kilometres south of the resort. Holiday rentals in Chloraka are only a half-hour drive from the airport and the town of Paphos itself is close, if you decide to visit for a day trip.
There are several pleasant beaches in Chloraka, ranging from the smaller, rocky coves in the north to the larger sandy resort beaches in the village itself. Although these beach resorts are often attached to some of Chloraka's larger hotels, they are also open to members of the public, though you will have to pay for the privilege of using their sun beds and parasols. If you prefer to explore beaches rather than lie on them, there is a pleasant walk along the coast which makes its way through Chloraka. The route has been paved and is even easy enough for small children, while the path keeps away from the very busy main road too. The original village of Chloraka is set a little way back from the sea and can provide a cool and shady break from the hot Cypriot sunshine and the area is also home to several good restaurants, shops and the local football team, Akritas Chlorakas.
There are lots of interesting places to visit within a few kilometres of the village of Chloraka. Even if you don't drive, public transport to these other towns and villages is fairly regular and reliable, with buses running along the Tomb of the Kings Road throughout the day and into the evening. The Tomb of the Kings Road itself is named after one of the region's biggest tourist attractions, a 4th century BC necropolis two kilometres from the main harbour in Paphos. Many of the buildings are surprisingly intact and there are some fascinating artefacts that have been found over years of archaeological exploration at the site. Beach lovers should definitely head for Coral Bay, located between Chloraka and Paphos and celebrated as one of the best resorts on the whole island. Soft sandy beaches, safe swimming and lots of facilities make this area ideal for families with small children.
