The once county of Hereford and Worcestershire were reconstituted as two separate counties just before the onset of the second millennia.
Both counties have stunning countryside and are home to some of the best apple and pear orchards in Britain contributing to some of the greatest ciders of Britain. The Wye Valley flows through Herefordshire neighbouring Gloucestershire and the Welsh county of Monmouth. The Severn and Avon flow through Worcestershire and the Malvern Hills undulate to some of the oldest rocks in Britain, giving way to views of cattle and sheep lazily grazing in the pastoral background. The county of Worcestershire also gives its name to one of the most famous international sauces – Worcester Sauce - that is used in different formats throughout Australia, North America and China. It is also said to be the basis behind the famous cooking sauce used in tonkatsu in Japan.
Herefordshire hosts a Hereford Cider museum in the county town of Hereford and also gives information regarding the old Cider route. The town also hosts its own cathedral and offers canoeing on their rivers and the unusual Golden Valley Llamas, which will give you the opportunity to trek with these famous beasts through some of the county’s natural beautiful landscape. Other famous beasts are the cattle in Herefordshire – whose cows are a famous brand throughout Britain.
Worcestershire also has its own cathedral in its county town of Gloucester too but if you would prefer more adrenalin then a trip to the West Midlands Safari and Leisure Park should help satisfy it. Evesham Country Park and Umberslade Children’s Farm will also help appreciate the wonder of the area besides the museums and other attractions including those like the Severn Valley Railway, which is a wonderful experience of exploring this marvellous county on the ancient steam trains.
