Humberside is a county that encompasses East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire and Kingston Upon Hull. It lies upon the Humber Tidal Estuary that draws its tidal waters from the rivers Ouse and Trent.
The most celebrated notable is that of the historic campaigner - William Wilberforce - who raised his voice loud to the inhumanity of the slave trade. This abolitionist was significant in securing the Slave Trade Act of 1807 which prevented this atrocity of human trafficking. The town of Hull recognises his achievements with the Wilberforce Monument and the Wilberforce House and Museum.
This town has also attracted the attention of Phillip Larkin and the Australian author Peter Porter who described it as "the most poetic city in England". The town of Hull also has a Museums Quarter recording different aspects of its history. Historic relevance also displays itself in the Napoleonic fortress of Fort Paull which also displays the only remaining Blackburn Beverley Aircraft. There is also the Aquarium called The Deep that displays many sharks and other exotic varieties of fish. The Humber Bridge is a great accomplishment of bridge work with its great span rolling over a great view of the cities waters bracing the Humber borders.
The Humber also has the North Lincs Sailing Club on its estuary and in Cleethorpes; another castle called Ross Castle and the Coast Light Railway operates steam trains which also give the opportunity for you to drive them yourself. More transport such as motor cars and bicycles are showcased in the Streetlife Museum in Hull. Other sport interests include the relaxing enterprises of birdwatching at Ings Nature Reserve and there are angling opportunities at both Pasture House Fishery and Marshland Fishery. In the months of April through to October there is also the chance of parasailing over the Humber itself.
