The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown dependency located in the Irish Sea. It is equidistant between England and Ireland with the closest mainland point being that of Scotland’s. On its highest peak Snaefell on a clear day they say you can see six kingdoms: those of the countries just mentioned as well as Wales, the heavens and the sea, which they call Manannan. There is the Snaefell Mountain Railway that can take you to the top of their highest mountain. There is also a walking trail, which will take you through the rural landscape and the fresh heights of clean mountain air.
Besides the mountain glory there is also the Curraghs Wildlife Park and the glens such as Summerhill Glen and others that will take you through pastoral parks and waterfalls. The Road of the Gull will take you along the coastline offering great views passing through areas of ancient hill forts and buried Viking ships. It also passes through golden expanses of beach that are blessed with cool summers and mild winters and crops of land that offer excellent opportunities to cast a rod into the sea for a bit of land fishing. Travelling by rail will also give you the possibility of taking it easy with the pleasure of the Manx Electric Railway and Steam Train that travel from the capital of the island Douglas. The ferry at Douglas travels regularly to the North West England’s peninsular of Liverpool and Birkenhead.
For history lovers they can breathe in the fortifications of Peel Castle and Castle Rushden and the stately home of Grove House and its marvellous gardens. There are also many museums dedicated to retelling the island’s past as well as exploring other great interests from times gone by. For those seeking adrenalin bursts then there is The Venture Centre and Onchan Pleasure Park.
