Lincolnshire is like an eastern pillar of England holding up the North from the South. Its county town of England is Lincoln and it is rich in heritage, entertainment and waterways that flow in from the sea blessed beaches to the rivers and canals. Lincoln Castle dates back to the thirteenth century and its cathedral dates back to the eleventh century. Lincoln Castle and the Cathedral are open throughout the year; times vary depending on daylight hours. There are also many museums that tell their own history dedicated to the recollection of the Royal Air Force, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre as well as other specialist topics such as the Bubble Car Museum and the National Fishing Heritage Centre.
There are natural parks and centres such as Natureland Seal Sanctuary, a falconry park and a Parrot Zoo as well as county parks, woodland and farmland. These are excellent for visiting or just simply nature viewing by car, cycling or hiking on foot. There are mills, mazes, theatres and cinemas and of course the natural landscape lends itself well to challenging courses of golf. For entertainment there are children adventure areas, amusement parks, laser quest and ten pin bowling.
The coast of Lincolnshire also offers excellent beaches with three of them being awarded the Blue Flag – the European award for clean and environmentally friendly beaches. Reminiscent of donkeys, candyfloss and seafood, the resort towns of Mablethorpe and Skegness are ideal for the family with the more sedate Sutton-on-Sea for those who prefer the quieter sunbathe. These are also ideal for water board sports and the wealth of waterways amassed from the abundance of lakes, rivers and canals offer great opportunities for sailing by barge or boat, canoeing and kayaking or exploring the depths by diving.
