HOLIDAY HOMES, HOUSES & COTTAGES TO RENT IN LONDON, ENGLAND.
|
Welcome to our selection of holiday homes to rent in London, England.
London, being the capital of England has many attractions that will entertain all visitors from the UK and abroad all the year round. However, it is the sights that can be visited during the summer that draws the flocks of tourists. The most famous being the home of the monarch – Queen Elizabeth II, whose regal residence of Buckingham Palace has the attraction of the Palace State Rooms and the Changing of the Guard. The former can be visited during the summer and the latter all the year round but the frequency of the Changing of the Guard is reduced during non-peak seasons.
The Tower of London is one of the most famous fortresses throughout the world. It was founded in the same year as the Battle of Hastings when William the Conqueror defeated Harold. Over the centuries it has been modified to be an armoury, a treasury and an astronomical observatory. However, its most famous use is its gory beheadings of former monarchs and once royal favourites whilst it served as a prison.
The royal power of the monarchs of England eventually gave way to government when William the Conqueror introduced a feudal system with noble appointed tenants-in-chief and prominent church officials before making laws. This gave way to democracy where elected officials from all social classes now sit in the House of Commons and those with noble titles sit in the House of Lords. When government is in recess during the summer – both houses can be visited.
London can be viewed in all its splendour from the London Eye, which takes in a sweeping panoramic view of the River Thames and The Palace of Westminster. There are red open top buses for sightseeing and many museums, art galleries as well as relaxing places such as Hyde Park.
