For a long time a popular destination with the rich and famous, the resort of St Tropez on the Cote d'Azur still attracts more than its fair chare of celebrities. Located on the southern Mediterranean coast of France, St Tropez is all about the beaches and the nightlife, though the picturesque old town is worth exploring, and is also home to a number of interesting art galleries. There are some budget hotels and hostels in St Tropez, but most normal tourists tend to visit for the day, rather than spending a small fortune on a bed for the night. Located just south of the more family-friendly resort of St Raphael, it is easy to get to St Tropez from either end of the French Riviera, either by car or by public transport. To get a taste of the celebrity lifestyle, you can take boat trips from several resorts up and down the coast, that then moor in St Tropez for a few hours.
Most of the beaches in St Tropez are private, with only a very small section of sand open to the public. Private doesn't mean you can't use them, it just means you must pay a fee for the privilege of lying on their sun beds and under their parasols. Many of these beaches also have their own restaurants or bars, so visitors on a budget might prefer to just enjoy a drink with a view and then try and squeeze onto the public section for some sunbathing. The Pirata Beach bar in the Pamelonne area is probably the cheapest and least exclusive, welcoming even non-celebrities to their stretch of sand and their tables.
One of the most popular ways to see St Tropez is from the sea, either from a boat tour taking in the length of the Cote d'Azur or a specific tour in this part of the coast. You can even take a cruise where the captain will point out the villas belonging to celebrities that are nestled on the cliff tops and very private beaches.
In a town where so much emphasis is put on fine dining and exclusive bars, it can often be difficult to find entertainment for children. However, there are two amusement parks within the St Tropez area that will keep the kids happy after you've dragged them round the designer boutiques in town! The Azur Park features two 18-hole mini golf courses, set in amongst models of dinosaurs and is also home to a cheap and friendly snack bar, while just outside St Tropez in the town of Cogolin, younger children can tire themselves out on the biggest bouncy castle in France.
