We all need to take a break occasionally and Gignod is just the place to relax and have a great time be it winter or summer. It’s a great holiday destination located in the Aosta Valley in the north west of Italy and is a beautiful town not yet thronged by the holiday masses.
Gignod offers a host of activities for those of you who decide to visit in winter. There is plenty of snow in the region and this translates to a host snow sports. There are many good ski runs for those who get a thrill from hurtling down the snow slopes on a pair of skis. Naturally, snowboarding and snow shoeing is not far behind and provide ample opportunities for those who enjoy these sports. For all these sports, there are different levels one can choose from depending on the stage of expertise and comfort.
Summer too is a good time to visit Gignod, as the place offers ample opportunities to indulge oneself. Test your stamina by taking off on a mountain biking trip. If you find that too strenuous, you can try horse riding, tennis or golf while you unwind.
The region provides some spectacular views and you can indulge the artist in you by trying to capture them on canvas. You are sure to be spoilt for choice with what nature lays before you. And if you like photography, try capturing the amazing views that are absolutely out of this world.
A mere 15 minutes away is the town of Aosta, which, outside of Rome, is the only place where you will find a significant amount of ancient Roman ruins. Take in the City Gates that date back to the 11th century. You could well be standing in the very place where victorious emperors were felicitated by their subjects as they returned after having conquered hostile armies. Step back in time with a visit to the remains of a triumphal arch, also known as the Arch of Augustus and which dates back to 35 B.C. There is also an 11th century Cathedral in the area that is worth a visit.
Summer extends from July to August and the daytime temperature is about 19 degrees Celsius, while the colder winter months are from November to February with temperatures varying from 4 degrees to -1 degree. The closest airport is Turin and is well connected to the major airports of Europe.
