A visit to Milan is a mix of history, fashion, sports and leisure. This is one place you can holiday to your heart’s content and have some wonderful memories too!
A visit to see The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci has to be among the first things you can do on a visit to Milan. It is in the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and is easily one of the greatest and most viewed paintings in the world. Make sure you reserve a slot to see the painting, as it is very crowded.
Move on to see one of the largest Churches in the world, the Duomo. It took 500 years to build and is adorned with 3500 statues and 135 spires! It has a Baroque and neo-Gothic façade and looks spectacular. You can even take a lift to the roof to enjoy a breath-taking view of the city and the Alps. Take a boat trip in the canals of Milan and learn about the history of the place. Round it off with a quiet dinner after enjoying the nightspots and boutiques that line the waterfront. The cuisine here is the most varied in Italy and you are sure to have an experience that will tingle your taste buds. If you are not too tired, take in some art at the Pinacoteca di Brera art museum that houses works by major Italian artists from the 13th century onwards.
Indulge in some shopping at the oldest mall in Europe at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, where you will find most of the top fashion brands under one roof. You can also head to the Rectangle of Gold for some window-shopping or to pick up something that you have long desired. If too pricey, try the seconds in the flea markets at the Fiera di Senigallia that come a whole lot cheaper. If football is what gives you a kick, head to the San Siro Stadium where you can watch AC Milan and FC Internazionale fight it out. There is also a museum here dedicated entirely to football! However, if music is what you enjoy, a trip to La Scala is a must to enjoy some world-class opera.
Round off your trip with some of the rich history that dots the city. There are many museums, as well as sites, where history can be appreciated and which brings the glorious Roman rule back to life.
A trip to Milan surely is one you will remember for a long time!
