Gale (pronounced "Gar-lay") is a small resort in central Algarve that has a beautiful beach, while vineyards, orange groves, olive and fig trees in the resort keep it looking pleasant and pleasing to the eye. There are some restaurants in the area, a few bars and a supermarket. The beach is only a short walk away.
Gale beach is very popular amongst visitors to Portugal and the Portuguese themselves and carry a blue flag award. People come for miles around for the attractive beach with its soft golden sands and calm waters, which make it ideal for families. Various watersports are possible here. The beach is effectively divided into two parts due to the natural large rock formation. There are also some caves to discover and explore plus rocky outcrops to climb if you are feeling adventurous enough. The walks upon the cliff edge are particularly breath taking and offer some great views and an atmospheric ambience especially if you choose to walk at sunrise or sunset.
Close by Gale is a large shopping complex, the Zoomarine theme park and the village of Guia, which is home to Sir Cliff Richard's villa and vineyards and almost thirty restaurants, the most popular dish being the chicken piri-piri. The Salgados Nature Reserve is also close by and is open freely to the public; you'll be able to see various birds and enjoy some good long walks in the Algarve countryside.
