Guia is a small village a short distance away from Albufeira. The village dates back to roman times however the actual origins are unclear. The most prominent attraction in the village is that Sir Cliff Richard has a villa and vineyard here. Several restaurants and bars are also in the village, close to thirty in fact, with their own style and speciality although chicken piri-piri is quite common. Guia is visited from various other towns and villages in the area because of the number of restaurants for the chicken piri-piri. There may actually be a correlation between the number of restaurants and bars in this simple village and Sir Cliff Richard having a home here attracting the crowds. Charming, but small and simple with a traditional Algarve atmosphere. The number of restaurants makes this a unique village in terms of being spoilt for choice of where to eat. During October, a religious fair is held near the chapel. Local attractions a short distance away from the village include a large shopping complex, the Zoomarine theme park where you can swim with dolphins and beaches about a ten minute drive away.
