Quarteira is a city in central Algarve along the coast. Originally a fishing village, Quarteira is now a significant tourist destination of Algarve. The city has seen a lot of development over the years with many high-rise buildings now making up the skyline. The seafront promenade is the most modern looking of Quarteira and showcases the best that the city has to display. The beach is also supervised and has been given the classification of "Accessible Beach" with car parking and disabled access along its stretch. Although fishing is no longer the city's main industry, there is still a large fishing community in Quarteira who continue to work every day with catches being sold to local restaurants and cafes. It is for this reason that there are many dining places that emphasise on fish and other seafood. So your lunch may have been swimming in the ocean that very morning, it’s that fresh. And because the restaurants specialise in fish, you can be guaranteed of quality meals. Quarteira is a great city to visit for a holiday. Every Wednesday is a large travelling community market that attracts many people in which you may be able to find a genuine bargain. These markets don't sell food but there are others in Quarteira that do. There are also several bars in the city if you enjoy your nightlife with many of the bars open until late and serve food and even have live music; there is also a casino. You may also want to visit the nearby Vilamoura, which is within walking distance. Quarteira is also not that far from several golf courses in the area; you could play on a different course almost every day of the week.
