Galicia is the northwesternmost region of Spain facing the Atlantic Ocean, the main attractions being the history, luscious scenery and beautiful beaches with a climate and geography distinct from the rest of Spain, with several mountain ranges including lush pine and eucalyptus forests. Galicia is largely dependant on fishing, farming and agriculture.
The region has become increasingly popular with tourists over the years, attracted to Galicia's heritage, celtic culture, architecture and traditions over the more well known beach resorts with their more typical Spanish culture in Spain.
Santiago de Compostela is the greatest of Galicia cities with many important buildings and is ideal for tourists wishing to take in Galicia's history or even to participate in shopping. The city has a festival celebration on the 25th July and further celebrations run throughout July and August. Santiago de Compostela is also close to several other cities and towns for those wishing to venture beyond the capital.
