Alcaidesa is a purpose-built residential resort, featuring a hotel and apartment block as well as private accommodation. Located on the Costa del Sol, within site of the Rock of Gibraltar, the main attractions of the resort are its golfing facilities, bars and restaurants and port facilities. The development is not yet complete and the owners still hope to expand the marina area as well as building a shopping mall and supermarket.

If you are staying at Alcaidesa, the chances are you will be staying in a private home, either belonging to yourself or friends or in holiday rental accommodation. There is one hotel and one apartment block that serves the usual tourist market, but this is only a very small part of the accommodation available in the resort. The apartments are the cheapest option, though you still have access to the same facilities as those who own their own property or who are staying in the hotel. The Hotel Aldiana is very popular with German tourists, and features its own swimming pool, sporting facilities and a private bar and restaurant for residents only. In the winter months, there is only one bar and restaurant open in Alcaidesa, the Dragonfly, which serves a choice of English or Spanish meals as well as drinks and snacks. In the summer, you can also enjoy a drink at the beach bar which is open during the day.

Alcaidesa's main attraction is its golfing facilities, including two 18-hole golf courses, a driving range and even a golf academy, if you want to spend some time on holiday improving your game. The two courses, Links and Heathland, boast great views over the Mediterranean while you enjoy your game; and the Links course at Alcaidesa is said to be the only one of its type in Spain. Residents and visitors can both use the golfing facilities, though priority is given to those staying in the resort itself. If you take your golfing seriously, you can sign up for one of the many local tournaments that take place at Alcaidesa throughout the year.

Although the marina area of Alcaidesa is currently unfinished, many of the facilities that will feature in the finished development are already in place, such as an area to moor private boats, an area for water sports and a paved promenade with gardens where residents and visitors can relax and enjoy the view. Eventually there will also be a bar and restaurant in the marina and parking for 1000 cars.
