The pleasant and unspoilt seaside town of Alcossebre is located on the east coast of Spain in the Valencia region. Despite being not much more than a large village, Alcossebre is home to five major beaches, on a stretch of coastline ten kilometres long. The surrounding scenery is another of the town's great attractions, being located close to the southern end of the Serra d'Irta mountain range.
The main reason to visit or stay in Alcossebre is the beach; or the beaches to be more precise. On the 10km of coastline that belongs to the town there are four main beaches, plus various other small coves and bays where you can enjoy a quieter day on the sands. Four of the main beaches, Carregador, El Romà, El Moro and Manyetes or Tropicana, all have the Blue Flag award for cleanliness and water quality, though the latter beach is shared by Alcossebre's neighbour on the Mediterranean coast, Capicorb. These larger beaches are very popular with locals and tourists alike and can get busy during the summer months, particularly the other main beach in the town, Les Fonts. All these major beaches have facilities such as toilets, showers and places where you can buy food and drink.
Some of the smaller beaches are further away from the town itself and are often a bit quieter. Tres Playas are three beaches that are separated by cliffs, while the cove known as Cala Blanco is located at the furthest point from Alcossebre near the lighthouse. A third cove, known as Cala del Moro is separated from the larger El Moro beach by a large sand dune. As well as enjoying the sunshine or a walk along the pleasant promenade, visitors on a clear day can also enjoy the view out to the Columbretes Islands, which lie several kilometres offshore.
Although Alcossebre is a small town, with no high rise hotels or apartments, it still has all the amenities of larger tourist towns, such as a selection of accommodations, bars and good local restaurants. Unsurprisingly for a town near the sea, the speciality of many of Alcossebre's eateries is fish or shellfish. One restaurant in particular, Cafe Batiste, is worth a visit, as the owner often catches his menu himself while diving! As well as serving great food, Cafe Batiste is also in an ideal location, right on the promenade with a view of the sea as the lights come on around the bay.
