The region of Baza is known for its attractive untouched natural landscapes with the surrounding mountains Sierra de Baza and Sierra de Castril in the backdrop. The region is extremely hot and dry during the summer and cold during the winter with rainfall usually occurring during spring and autumn. The town of Baza contains about half the population of the region of Baza with the other half being spread out in the several small villages that lie dotted about. Baza has a rich history with several ancient buildings still standing today including numerous churches dating back to the 16th century and the Alcazaba fortress dating back to the 11th century, which lies in the centre of the town.
Baza also has several festivals each year including the Easter Holy Week in which religious images are carried through the town and is a tradition taken seriously by the locals. Another popular festival is the town fair in early to mid September. The people of Baza have to defend the Virgen de la Piedad from the invaders of the nearby town of Gaudix in a bout of colourful playacting from both sides recalling a 500-year-old dispute.

The Municipal Museum of Baza
The Municipal Museum of Baza was founded in 1988. It has been open to the public since 1998 and has some incredible exhibits, which makes visiting here a must for anyone with an interest in archaeology. Within the museum, there are four different sections. They are Iberia, Medieval, Roman and the Prehistoric eras.
