Elche is on the Costa Blanca about 7 kilometers from the coast, a city known for it's proliferation of palm trees typified by the Palmeral or Palm Groves a World Heritage Site since 2000.
In August the Mystery Play, or Festa d'Elx takes place over two days in the Basilica, dating back to the 15th century the play is one of the most popular events both for the tourists and the local inhabitants.
Nearby are nine kilometres of unspoilt beaches most of which are blue flag beaches and are well connected to Elche. The local beach of La Marina is popular with water sports enthusiasts having it's own water sports centre.
