Located on the Northern part of Tenerife, Icod de los Vinos was one of the first towns to be established dating back almost 600 years.
Famous for the wines produced in the area the town is lively and bustling with a wide variety of shops, restaurants and bars. The cuisine has some unique dishes that use ingredients that can only be found locally. There are several restaurants that usually serve these local dishes and are well liked by visitors. The extensive Canary Island Pine forests stretch from the town down to the sea. Like many beaches on Tenerife, the Play San Marcos in Icod los Vinos has hot black sand and clear blue seas. Although small, the beach is quite pleasant and has some restaurants close by, surrounded by the Canary Island Pine trees.
Icod de los Vinos is famous for what is reputed to be the oldest dragon tree in the world and is also considered to be the symbol of the town. It is unknown exactly how old the tree is because these trees do not produce annual rings, however it is speculated to be over 1000 years old.
