The small inland town of Montbrio del Camp is located in the Catalonia region of Spain, near the city of Tarragona. Although several kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea, many of the best beaches in this part of Spain are within easy driving distance; ideal if you want to spend your evenings somewhere quiet and relaxed but enjoy all the amenities that the tourist resorts have to offer during the day. Also within driving distance is the historic town of Reus and the city of Tarragona itself, while heading further inland you can explore the stunning natural Catalan scenery.
One of Montbrio del Camp's biggest attractions to holidaymakers is that it is located in the heart of the beautiful Catalan countryside, surrounded by mountains which offer spectacular views of the neighbouring peaks and even as far as the coast. The town itself has many picturesque old buildings, including the church of Sant Pere Ap while the Musem Pique houses some impressive paintings and pieces of sculpture.
The closest large tourist resort is Cambrils, while the popular destination of Salou is only a few kilometres further north. Both boast fine, sandy beaches and plenty of amenities and entertainment for younger travellers. Expect the beaches to get very busy at the weekend in the summer, but there are other ways to amuse yourself, by taking the tourist train round either of the resorts, exploring Cambrils' old town or spending the day at the PortAventura water park outside Salou.
The nearest large town to Montbrio del Camp is Reus, which also has its own small airport. Despite being the birthplace of architect Antoni Gaudi, whose buildings in Barcelona made him famous, there are no structures designed by him in his hometown. There are several examples of similar works by similar architects in Reus and the town's Gaudi Centre tells the story of his life while featuring models and presentations of many of his most famous buildings.
Further east, the region's main city of Tarragona is also worth visiting for its Roman ruins and medieval fortifications. Heading inland, you come to the mountain town of Riudecanyes, which lies on the shores of the reservoir, which shares its name. This is an ideal location for walking, water sports and can even be used as a more peaceful place to relax in the sun on weekends.
