The small coastal resort of Puebla de Farnals, sometimes spelled Pobla de Farnals in the local Valencian dialect, is located just a few kilometres north of Valencia, on the River Turia. Whether you want to spend your time on the Costa Blanca enjoying the sunshine, visiting picturesque and historic old quarters or exploring unique natural environments, Puebla de Farnals and the surrounding area will have something for you.
Thanks to its great location on the Mediterranean, there is a wide choice of seafood restaurants in the town, most situated near the modern marina, while the summer months see locals and tourists alike enjoying a number of festivals, such as the summer solstice, or “Night of San Juan”, which is celebrated with fireworks, bonfires and dances until the early hours of the morning.
There are two main beaches in Puebla de Farnals, the Sur Beach and the Norte Beach, both of which are ideal for families, with shallow waters, lifeguards on duty and other amenities such as changing rooms, toilets and showers. Each of the two beaches are backed by a small promenade where you can find a selection of beach bars and restaurants for a lunchtime snack. The Norte Beach is slightly larger and has also won awards for cleanliness from the Spanish authorities.
Both can get very busy in the summer months, so you might prefer to head away from Puebla de Farnals to one of the quieter beaches further up the coast, especially if you have hired a car. The beaches to the south, towards Valencia, are all very beautiful, but are often busy with locals from the city on weekends and evenings.
One of the most popular day trips for visitors to Puebla de Farnals is to head the short distance down the coast to the city of Valencia. As well as being home to several beautiful historic buildings and an interesting old quarter, the city also boasts an impressive cultural centre called the “City of Arts and Science” which features a concert hall, cinema, aquarium and an interactive science museum that the kids will love if you’re unlucky to have a rainy day.
Public transport from Puebla de Farnals to Valencia is reliable and regular if you would prefer not to hire a car, but some of the quieter and more remote beaches south of the city are difficult to get to without your own transport.
