Puerto del Carmen is the busiest and most well known resort in the municipality of Tias in Lanzarote. The new town of Puerto Del Carmen offers a fantastic variety of activities to suit people of all ages. There are many large shops along the Beach Avenue and in particular the Biosfera shopping complex as well as many different and varied restaurants offering a large choice of cuisines and dishes
There are more than six kilometres of man-made beaches where you can enjoy the year round good weather, windsurfing, marine excursions, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving. Along the six kilometres of beach lies the promenade containing hundreds of restaurants, shops, cafes and other assorted interests. The Playa Grande is the longest beach in Puerto Del Carmen with calm waters, perfect for families but does get crowded during the summer. However there are some much less busy beaches if large crowds are off-putting.
There are many places offering live music, shows, bar lounges on the beach, bars, pubs and discos, showing why Puerto del Carmen is considered the par excellence for party goers. There are also two festivals of note; the Carnavale at the end of February, and at the end of July is the Fiesta de Carmen with singing and dancing lasting throughout the night until early morning. Signalling the end of the fiesta are decorated fishing boats and set out to sea, praying for good catches in the coming year.
