Puerto Pollensa began life as a fishing village and it still retains some of the old traditions, such as the evening paseso or stroll. It is located on the far northwestern tip of the island and has become a popular tourist destination thanks to its beautiful scenery and setting. There is a horseshoe shaped bay that is very sheltered and its backdrop is the stunning Tramuntana mountain range.
Pine Walk is a pedestrian area that is popular for evening strolls; it runs along the length of the beach for about two miles. The name comes from the host of pine trees that adorn the walkway and in the evening the sound of the sea lapping at the sand makes it very tranquil.
If you like to be active while on holiday, then there are many walking and hiking trails to explore in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains. However, regardless of how experienced you are, always ensure you take a guidebook and stick to the route. Just like anywhere, sudden changes of weather or conditions can make finding your way back down that much harder if you have strayed from the designated path. There is also a water park enjoyed by your little one, Karting Park and three mini golf courses to utilise if you feel the need.
Both artists and painters have come to this area for over a hundred years and as a result there are many art galleries and museums here.
There is the music festival, which takes place in July; this event usually consists of children’s parties, folk music and dance, jazz, ballroom dancing and a beach party with live acts. The festival is held over 6 days with various activities, events and acts happening on each day. On the final day there is parade and a grand firework display at La Gola Beach.
The old town of Pollensa is about five miles inland from the port. There is a market here every Sunday and it can be reached by a 20-minute bus ride. This market has everything you could possibly want to buy: fresh fruit, flowers, pickles and typical tourist items and clothing.
Pollensa is also home to many festivals that run throughout the year and as it is only a short bus ride from Puerto Pollensa, it is worth checking out what they have going on as well.
