Torre Valentina is a small town on the coast of Catalonia, in northern Spain, not far from the main city of Girona. Although the resort itself is only home to one small beach, it is situated between two larger resorts, both of which are within easy driving distance, if you have hired a car, or well served by local public transport if you don't feel comfortable driving abroad.
Girona itself is also within driving distance, and is a popular day trip destination for those staying on the stretch of coastline around Torre Valentina while between the coast and the city is an area of outstanding and unspoilt natural beauty, popular with walkers, mountain bikers and climbers.
The small beach in Torre Valentina is well taken care of, and has been awarded a Blue Flag for cleanliness. It also has all the amenities you would expect, such as lifeguards on duty, showers and toilets, while the beach bars provide the perfect place to take a lunchtime break from the sun.
Torre Valentina is located halfway between two much larger Catalan resorts, both of which boast much better tourist amenities. Palamos not only boasts a number of sandy beaches, mainly smllaer coves with safe, sheltered bathing, but is also home to two medieval churches and a traditional fishing port alongside the larger marina.
Platja d'Aro is more of a typical seaside resort, with eight sandy beaches stretching for several kilometres, most of which is backed by a wide and popular promenade. British pubs and restaurants sit beside typical Spanish eateries, while children are well catered for with attractions like mini-golf, water parks and boat trips along the coast. Platja d'Aro also has a lively nightlife, with many bars and discos staying open until the first bus back to Torre Valentina in the morning!
One of the most popular day trips from Girona, whether you are an independent traveller or on a package tour, is to the nearby historic city of Girona. Home to an impressive cathedral, approached via a climb of nearly 100 steps, as well the picturesque narrow, winding streets of the old quarter.
Look out while walking for some of the last remaining signs of the city's once large Jewish population; you can find out about their culture and history in the Catalan Jewish Museum. The Girona Art Museum features some important works by Catalan artists and is housed in one of the city's oldest buildings, the 12th century Bishop's Palace.
