A holiday should be something that is far removed from the ordinary and usual in your life. This in itself will ensure that you are having a time that you will enjoy and cherish. A trip to Tossa de Mar is one such where you can enjoy many unusual things.
The Fishing boats
The place was once very dependent on fishing and even today it is a habit that is hard to give up for its residents. It’s a sight to behold old men prepare their boats and head to the waters to try their luck at catching that elusive school.
Walk around the town
Tossa is passionate about maintaining its Spanish identity and so you are bound to experience a lot of the local way of life – starting with the traditional outdoor cafes. You won’t find any of the famous eatery chains that seem to rule our lives here. Walk around the old ruins of the city and climb the cliff paths that overlook the city to enjoy some spectacular views. Try the local wines, tapas cafes and gift shops to enjoy more of the local flavour.
The Old Town
Take a walk along the fortified walls of the old town to enjoy the stunning views! The railings are a little low so keep an eye open if children accompany you. The old town has a lot of history behind it as evidenced by the cobbled winding streets, historic ruins and ancient houses.
Try making some jewellery
Give scope to the jeweller in you by making something that is absolutely unique in silver and stone at Tim and Kat. They even teach you how to do it, so if it’s your first time, your creative instincts won’t get stuck while making your own necklace or earrings.
See the Municipal Museum
This building used to be the house of the local Governor in medieval times, but now hosts many important works of modern art along with archaeological finds from 300BC to the medieval times. There are also the remains of many Roman villas that are found here.
Water Park
Europe’s biggest water park is just outside Tossa. Try the 250-meter rubber raft ride over steep hills, sharp bends and dark tunnels. There are water slides, kamikaze plunges, besides hydrotherapy treatments. About 30 kilometres from Tossa is a marine land complex that has dolphins, sea lions, a reptile house, children’s zoo and boating.
