Spain conjures up images of sun filled bliss in the traveller’s mind. Vera, situated in southern Spain, is no exception. It is a beautiful, while at the same time traditional Spanish town. There are two Veras; Vera Palya and Vera Town. It is a wonderful holiday destination and there are many things here to keep the visitor occupied.

Vera Town

The place beckons all travellers with its old world charm and its friendly and hospitable inhabitants. The town used to be an important commercial centre that dates back to the renaissance period. You can soak in the atmosphere of the old town that somehow magnetically seems to draw people. There are many quaint shops that deal in handicrafts, Spanish tapas bars, besides innumerable restaurants where you can enjoy the local cuisine.

Being from the renaissance period, the town has many important churches. The one at La Encarnacion, which dates back to 1400 AD and the Chapel Espirtu Santo are a definite must see. There is also a historic town museum where you can see some interesting facts and learn about the history of the place. Vera Palya

Head to Vera Palya, the other Vera and which boasts of over four miles of clean sandy beaches, stretching from Villaricos in the north to Garrucha in the south. The place was awarded the Blue Flag quality award by the European Union. There is also a water park area that overlooks the sea and offers excellent water rides, shoots and fumes. There is also a children’s play area and three large swimming pools, so that nobody feels left out!

The Naturist area

If you are a naturist, you will love this! The place is home to a naturist zone, specially earmarked with a two-kilometre beach. There are also houses, restaurants and leisure facilities for the people who throng this spot.

The Bullring

Bullfighting is almost an institution in Spain and the best place for this is the Vera Bullring, which was built in 1879. It still retains the old style and is definitely worth a visit. There is also a museum here that you might want to visit.

Market Day

If you happen to be visiting over the weekend, do not miss the Saturday Morning Street market that seems to take over the whole town! You will find tons of stuff on sale here.
