Xativa is situated along the right bank of River Albaida, the capital of the Costera region. It’s a traditionally authentic town with tourists discovering the true heart of Spanish culture and people. An impressive medieval castle at the entrance to the town rising up above welcomes all approaching visitors and within the town, you will find enchanting boulevards and streets lined with lush trees in addition to several trendy modern shops and cafes. Despite only being a relatively short distance away from the coast, Xativa cannot be more different than the coastal towns that many tourists have come to expect from Spain.
The medieval castle was only the beginning of the town's history lesson to visitors - there are many magnificent historical buildings, monuments and other attractions to discover. There is the Seu Cathedral, the churches of Sant Feliu and Sant Pere, the Palace of the Marquis of Montortal and the Alarco palace. There are also around one thousand fountains around the town because of Moorish culture and many are in fact historical monuments in their own right. From the lively old town quarter with its narrow streets and old churches to the modern regional districts, visitors staying in Xativa will always find new places to see or things to do. Some of the modern facilities include swimming pools, language schools and a modern theatre.
Continuing the history lesson the town is giving to tourists discovering its historical wealth, the castle itself is a combination of several different architectural influences such as Iberian, Roman, Moorish and Christian giving it a somewhat unique appearance as far as castles go. With its thirty towers and four fortified gateways, Xatavia Castle is the most delightful and awe-inspiring of the Valencian Community.
There are several traditional Spanish restaurants for when you feel like you deserve a well-earned break from spending the day exploring the town. You'll find one close by to wherever you are in town. Sit outside in the sun and continue enjoying the atmosphere while partaking in Xativa's traditional Spanish tapas or another dish
