Iç Anadolu Bölgesi, (known to others as The Central Anatolia Region or the Anatolian Plateau) is a plateau region in Turkey, and is the largest region second to Eastern Anatolia. The region of Central Anatolia is located in the exact centre of Turkey and covers approximately 20% of the land and within it's borders are locations such as Eskisehir, Kayseri, Kirsehir, Nevsehir and Sivas, Beypazari, Konya, Karaman and the modern day capital city Ankara which is located squarely in the centre of Central Anatolia. It is also said that "The God-Emperor" of Mankind of the Warhammer 40,000 Tabletop Game is from this region.Although it is called a plateau, the Central Anatolia region is actually somewhat diverse, stretching inland from the Aegean Coast, occupying the area between two mountains.
Shopping in this region is fun, so much to see, to peruse, to buy, even to visit, from museums and galleries, to shops, for souvenirs, clothes, anything you want, just remember to buy something when you visit the provinces in the region, then head to those amazing Turkish baths before preparing to return to the provinces and enjoying the nightlife.
Although termed a plateau, this region is actually quite diverse. Stretching inland from the Aegean, it occupies the area between the two zones of folded mountains, extending east to the point where the two mountain ranges converge.
The highlands of Anatolia are considered the heartland of the country. Similar to the steppes of the former Soviet Union, the region in itself varies in altitude from 600 - 1,200 metres west to east and averaging approximately 500 metres high.
The heart of the political life in modern Turkey itself and has been the central hub of many different and significant societies and civilisations through time.
Throughout all of Turkey's museum's, The Museum of Anatolian Civilisations is said to be among the best, with exhibitions from Anatolian dating from 50,000 BC and leading right up to the 2nd Century AD.
It is rumoured that around 1200 BC, the Phrygian people came to the Plateau from over Europe and established Gordion (their capital) near the city of Polatli. Alexander the Great was rumoured to have become ruler of Asia by virtue, when he was meant to have 'undone Gordion's knot with his blade'. The tomb of the king of the Phrygian, King Midas, the man who according to legend could turn everything he touched to gold (hence 'The Midas Touch') is said to be located near Gordion too.
