Dogu Anadolu Bolgesi (or The Eastern Anatolia Region as it is known) and was first defined at the initial Geography Congress in 1941 and although it has the highest average altitude and the biggest geographical area, it unfortunately has the lowest population density out of all of Turkey, the majority of the region of Eastern Anatolia was known as the Armenian Highlands, or simply Armenia.
The region of Eastern Anatolia is located in the easternmost part of the country, with the Black Sea Region to the north, Central Anatolia Region to the west, Southeast Anatolia and Iraq to the south with countries like Iran, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan to the east, the area of Eastern Anatolia is approximately 171,061 km².

Agri Province, Bingöl Province, Elazig Province, Erzurum Province, Igdir Province, Malatya Province and Tunceli Province.

The plateaus and plains within the region include Erzurum-Kars Plato, Malatya, Elazig and Mus plains.
There are three massif lines in the region running north-south, to the north is the Çimen Dagi, Kop Dagiand Yalnizçam mountains, in the centre is the Munzur, Karasu Dagi, Aras Dagi mountains and to the south there is the Southeast Tauros, Bitlis, Hakkari, and Buzul mountains, also in the region are some volcanic mountains including Nemrut, Süphan, Tendürek and Ararat.
