The State of Iowa is located in the Mid-Western United States, and is known as the ‘American Heartland’. Iowa is well known for its agricultural roots, once a French colony Iowa soon became part of the ‘Corn Belt’ and became known as the ‘Food capital of the world’.
Today, Iowa is a diverse region and offers tourists many things to do, see and enjoy. The more adventurous visitor may wish to explore one of the many trails, which are used by cyclists and hikers. Golf lovers will enjoy a holiday in Iowa. The state boasts a huge range of courses with a choice of 9 or 18 holes, driving ranges and stores as well as some of the most beautiful scenic courses in the U.S.
Lovers of wine will also enjoy trip to Iowa’s wineries, many of which offer tours and samples of the produce. Those who enjoy city breaks will also have much to see and do in Iowa, which offers a range of restaurants, steakhouses and tearooms. There are also many great places for those who love to shop. Throughout the year, Iowa hosts many festivals including the Iowa state fair with its many parades, musical performances, rides and contests.

Arnolds Park
Arnolds Park is one of the country’s oldest theme parks and offers a wide range of rides and activities. The Raceway offers 3 tracks to choose from and a fun racing activity for all the family to enjoy. The park also has a range of concerts and events to attend throughout the year.
Adventureland Park
The Adventureland Park is a popular theme park in Des Moines. The park plays host to over 100 rides and shows including rides designed for children, so all of the family can feel catered for.
Slideways Karting Center
The Slideways Karting Center is a large and well known Karting Facility which offers high speed thrills and hosts competitions and leagues during the year.
Airpower Museum
The Airpower Museum was born with its mission to preserve the heritage of flight and airpower. The museum exhibits a range of engines, propellers, artwork and aircraft from a range of periods including World War 2.
Lost Island Waterpark
The Lost Island Waterpark in Waterloo is a great choice for family’s and those who enjoy water parks generally. The parks main attractions include a wave pool, Tahiti Treehouse, a play area for small children with its own slides. Adults and older children can enjoy the range of slides available including inflatable dingy rides down speeding slides.

Iowa’s Capital is Des Moines, which is also its largest city. Iowa is primarily countryside but there are other notable cities including Davenport and Cedar Rapids.
Climate
The climate of Iowa has wide variations in temperature from summer to winter, summer temperatures often climb above 30°C and in winter the temperatures can drop to almost –20°C. Iowa has severe weather conditions in the spring with thunderstorms and tornados being common during this period.
