Known for being a southern state within the east central region of the United States, Kentucky is known for being a "Bluegrass State" owing to the bluegrass that is present in a number of pastures in the state.
Kentucky is an interesting and diverse place to visit. Those who enjoy history are well catered for here, with a wide range of museums to visit. The Coal Mining Museum is an interesting visit showing an insight to life as a miner in the 1920s. The Bluegrass Motorcycle Museum has a small collection of classic motorcycles to see and enjoy.
Kentucky hosts the Annual Derby City Film Festival, focusing on independent films and filmmakers the festival is an interesting choice for lovers of film. The Wilmore Arts and Crafts Festival offers a wide range of hand-made crafts, live music and food served by the local restaurants.

Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History
Founded in 1966 the Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History is a popular destination for families seeking knowledge and entertainment. The museum is located in Owensboro in a 19th century building. Exhibits include the “speedzeum” dedicated to all things speedy, from motor sport to local athletes.
Louisville Zoo
The Louisville Zoo is a stunning state-owned zoo not far from downtown Louisville. The zoo has a range of attractions and exhibits such as the Glacier Run, home to Sea lions and the Gorilla Forest, a four-acre enclosure in which Gorillas roam together with two pygmy hippos. The zoo hosts a variety of mammals, birds and reptiles including Crocodiles, Tigers, Eagles and even some invertebrates like the Tarantula.
Russell Sims Aquatic Centre
The Russell Sims Aquatic Centre offers a fun day out for all the family. There are slides, diving boards and a 50-meter pool complete with palm trees for that ‘desert island’ feel.
Beech Bend & Splash Lagoon Amusement
Beach Bend is a water and amusement park, first opened in 1898 the park is a popular attraction, and has a range of activities to see and enjoy. The water area has a wave pool and a lazy river, which acts as a moat surrounding the Tiki Island play area and a sun lounging area. The waterpark also offers slides and a leisure pool. The amusement park has a range of rides to enjoy including the Kentucky Rumbler, Karts and bumper cars. The park also offers lovers of speed an oval circuit and a drag strip.
Guntown Mountain
Guntown Mountain is a family attraction set in the old-west. The town is faithfully created in the style of the old west during the time of the frontier. Visit the saloon show to watch the dancers here or watch shootouts. Onyx Cave can also be visited, it is said that Jesse James hid in one of the local caves after robbing one of kentucky’s banks.

Major Cities
Kentucky’s capital city is Frankfort however Louisville is its largest city. Other large cities include Lexington, Bowling Green and Owensboro.
Climate
Kentucky’s climate tends to be similar throughout the state, summer temperatures can reach 30C or more, winter lows tend to drop below freezing to –5C. High winds and Tornados appear infrequently.
