With its rich history and mountains, West Virginia offers a lot to the visitor. You can start with Seneca Rocks which is West Virginia’s most popular and best known destination. The jagged peaks are a sight to behold. There are many climbing routes along with hiking trails for the outdoors among you. Once you reach the top you are treated to a stunning view of the valley. In fact, you’ll actually be looking down on the wheeling vultures! Weekend programmes include nature talks and music demonstrations. Picnic sites too are available if you just want to laze around while taking in the awesome views.
Head to Harpers Ferry, to see the spectacular view where the Potomac and the Shenandoah rivers converge. It’s a lovely place for those who enjoy history and the outdoors. Famous for John Brown’s attack on slavery, it is also the place where the largest number of American troops surrendered during the Civil War. There are museums, restaurants and craft shops along with tours on offer here.
West Virginia offers some great hunting and fishing opportunities and regularly draws sportsmen from far and wide. Hunting is a time honoured tradition here, so you will find nothing lacking as you set out after your quarry. Anglers are provided a variety of fishing opportunities and experiences.
Besides this, it also offers some of the best white water adventures in the country. Whether it’s a mild paddle or a thrilling ride, Fayetteville offers it all. Wintershere are a different thing altogether and the resorts offer some exciting skiing opportunities, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snow tubing and much more. There are also some very scenic drives that you can take to enjoy the beautiful views in the Mountain State.
You can even indulge in some treasure hunting at the Someplace Special Gem Mine that is open to the public. You just might stumble upon an emerald, sapphire ruby or even a gold nugget. And if you do………you get to keep it!
West Virginia loves to celebrate and there are several fairs and festivals where you can enjoy some music, dancing, food and have a great time. At a visit to one of the many museums you will see many interesting exhibits that talk of the civil war, colonial life, as also the coalfields and railroads that have played a major role in the country’s history.
Head to one of the historic sites or main streets where you can see some beautiful buildings and architecture. There are also railroad excursions where you can travel back in time through coalfields, mountains towns and valleys.
